Light Commercial Van Assembly Line

The Vehicle Is 100 Meters Longer, So the Line Grows Too — How a Van Assembly Line Is Extended

A van body is a full section longer than a passenger car — 5 to 6 meters. The assembly line must extend by 80 to 120 meters. The trim section gains side panel and rear floor stations. The cargo area interior panels require a dedicated sub-line running in parallel.

The extended slat conveyor uses segmented drive to prevent chain stretch synchronization issues. Each segment has an independent VFD. The cargo interior sub-line uses a hot-melt adhesive machine for panel-to-metal bonding. Large side windows are handled by a robotic arm — manually lifting a glass panel that large is impractical.

Exhaust extraction at test stations is standard. Diesel vans produce more particulates than gasoline vehicles, requiring stronger extraction. 50 to 70 seconds per unit, 50,000 to 100,000 units per year.

Technical Specifications

Applicable Models: Diesel and gasoline light commercial vans with 5-6 metre body length; body-on-frame with cargo interior trim; annual capacity 50,000-100,000 units.

Line Layout: Extended slat conveyor (80-120 metres longer than standard passenger car line); segmented VFD drives prevent chain stretch synchronization issues; dedicated parallel sub-line for cargo interior panel pre-assembly; exhaust extraction at test stations with stronger capacity for diesel particulate handling.

Core Equipment: Segmented slat conveyor with independent VFD per segment; hot-melt adhesive machine for cargo interior panel-to-metal bonding; robotic arm for large side window glass handling and adhesive application; high-capacity diesel exhaust extraction system at test stations; cargo interior sub-line running in parallel to main line.

Key Technical Features: Segmented drive prevents chain stretch over the extended conveyor length – each segment has independent speed control. Large side windows (impractical to lift manually) handled by robotic arm. Diesel exhaust extraction stronger than gasoline equivalent due to higher particulate output. Cargo interior sub-line decouples interior panel assembly from main-line flow.

Production Metrics: Cycle time 50-70 seconds per unit; annual capacity 50,000-100,000 units; line extended 80-120 metres vs passenger car line; segmented drive with independent VFD per conveyor segment.
